Food Tours on The Move
A taste of cities around the world on foot, on bike, and more.

This website/blog combines many of my favourite things: travel, outdoor activities, history, culture, photography, and of course food. In the food tours section, you’ll find site-by-guides for food tours (starting with cities in North America). The city guides section give OnTheMove tips to travel and eat in cities around the world.

Follow Food Tours on the Move on Instagram to know when all new content comes out.

There’s no better way to discover a place – whether it’s a neighbourhood in your hometown, or a city across the world – than on foot: walking the streets, taking in the sights, the sounds, and the smells, and then grabbing a seat next to locals enjoying a delicious meal.

These tours are designed to incorporate some sort of physical activity: most involve walking, but some can be done by bike, and one is even designed to be done on (ice) skates. Some of the tours involve the use of public transit – another great way to discover a new city while saving money on taxi/uber costs – but none require the use of a car.

Some of my favourite travel memories involve food: Being invited to join a table locals at an izakaya in Tokyo trying out snacks and sake to kill time before the 4:00 a.m. tuna auction; Getting an impromptu Spanish and history lesson from a local Spanish teacher at a lunch spot in Antigua, Guatemala; Returning a few days in a row to try out a new dish from an elderly woman cooking out of a tiny street kitchen in Hanoi; Chowing on late-night BBQ street food on plastic chairs on the streets of Xian, China; Joining strangers at southern-style brunch in Nashville. Food brings people together like nothing else. This blog will allow you to discover some of the things that make cities unique, through iconic dishes or a hole-in-the-wall finds off the beaten path.

While hoping to expand to itineraries and tips for travel, I’m starting off with some of my favourite food tours, with more to be added periodically. I try to keep the site as up to date as possible, but especially during the COVID-era there may be some businesses that have closed, changed locations, or have different hours.

I’m not profiting from this site and no establishments have paid me anything; this was just designed as a project to put together notes developed over the years. I love giving travel tips to friends and family and this blog is hopefully a convenient way to consolidate everything in one place.
